The Moth
Graduation Collection of Savannah College of Art and Design
Story/Concept
This collection, named 'The Moth,' seeks to capture the transformative journey of a human being. Just like the moth, a type of Lepidoptera that lacks the beauty and elegance of a butterfly, humans are imperfect despite their perceptions. Fragile and vulnerable, they sometimes cocoon themselves, only to emerge stronger and closer to their ideal selves.
Designed with an abstract concept, this collection visualizes the human form embodying the essence of the moth through its silhouettes. While the theme carries a hint of fantasy, the silhouettes remain simple, strong, and feminine. Aquarelle serves as the inspiration for the desaturated color palette. The fabric, drawing from the gestures and textures of a moth, incorporates layers of lace and latex, creating a feminine allure that evokes fantasy and symbolizes the concept of incubation.
